About This Spot
Stepping into Mohnen's Family Restaurant, nestled along County Highway KK just outside Appleton, is like arriving at a cherished neighborhood gathering spot where familiarity mingles effortlessly with the comforting aroma of home-cooked breakfast. The pace here feels unhurried yet lively, a place where laughter and quiet conversation co-exist amid the soft clatter of plates and the warmth of well-worn booths.
This is a corner of Wisconsin where mornings stretch a little longer over generous portions crafted with care. Whether it’s the tender pull of cinnamon roll pancakes or the savory welcome of a hearty skilet, there’s a quiet joy in every bite—a reflection of the kitchen’s thoughtful approach to classic American breakfast fare. The kind of place where an eggs benedict or chocolate chip pancakes aren’t just menu items but familiar friends, evoking the same comfort as a well-loved recipe passed down through generations.
The rhythm of Mohnen’s isn’t rushed, even when the dining room hums with regulars and families sharing their first meal of the day. There’s something warmly reassuring about the way the staff moves through the space—attentive and easygoing, like welcoming a guest into their home. It's clear from every exchange that this is not just a place to eat, but a place to connect, catch up, and savor small moments together.
Beyond the breakfast classics, the ever-present offering of scratch-made desserts and seasonal specialties lends a quiet creativity that keeps locals returning—whether for a hearty meatloaf dinner or a festive peppermint hot chocolate on a chilly afternoon. It’s this blend of comforting tradition and personal touches that makes Mohnen’s feel like an extension of the community itself.
For those looking to take their time and soak in a genuine slice of Appleton life, Mohnen's Family Restaurant offers more than just a meal—it’s a gathering place where food nourishes both body and spirit, quietly celebrated in the smiles of neighbors and the soft clink of coffee mugs raised in greeting.

This is my all time favorite restaurant! I absolutely love the staff, each one is honestly like a friend to me. I look forward to saying hi and checking in with the staff just as much as i look forward to the yummy breakfast. The pancakes (!) best ever. Hands down. No other place even comes close for me. They are made from scratch with love. Such selection in their breakfast options and lunch offerings. Did I mention the pancakes?? Mohnens is truly a well oiled machine, everyone works together to make it run so wonderfully and it shows! Just watch them as they work, it’s incredible. Clean, friendly outgoing staff, as a customer you are appreciated, your business matters, prices are very reasonable, all ages friendly, walker and wheelchair accessible, fancy foofy coffee drinks, delicious milkshakes and desserts too. Some times of the day are busier so you may have a wait time, but honestly I’d rather wait for the quality I know I will get. There is definitely a reason they get so busy!

Decided to stop at this place in the morning for breakfast. Definitely came during prime time, but was able to get a seat right away. Food was very good, and the server we had was welcoming and very efficient. They had a variety of different options for breakfast, from omelettes, pancakes, breakfast specials, and healthy options like oatmeal. Food portion sizes were great, and even though it was really busy, we did get our food pretty quickly. When we left, there was a bit of a wait, but people were willing to wait to get their meals. Prices were good.

every single time we come here, regardless of how busy it is, we always receive awesome service and the food never disappoints! the omelet special was sooo good: chicken fried steak omelet, hope this will be a regular thing lol.

Really wish they had more gluten free and dairy free options. Adding spinach and mushrooms to the omelettes would be a great addition as well as having a dairy free option for creamers and berries in the winter would be great. Service is amazing and the quality of food is excellent. A couple of additions would make it exceptional and could draw a bigger crowd of celiac and those who need to be dairy free with small additions.

A traditional greasy spoon, but in a strip mall setting. Frisco burger was good. + Added a cup of "special " smoked Mac and cheese. - The cup was SO hot. I ate the burger and fries and the cup was still hot to touch. - And then the mac was mediocre. + However my wife's "Special " pumpkin pancake was super good, and done like never seen before.

Ive been coming here for at least 15 years (probably closer to 20) and it is fantastic everytime. The staff is always SO kind and hospitable. The food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. My only complaint is that I wish they were open later!

Had an excellent breakfast at Mohnen's today. I'm found out that the place is slammed every weekend between 10 and noon. I was alone at 11, so I was able to sit at the counter instead of waiting. Anyway, I saw many beautiful omelets go by while there, and I actually had a conversation with the dude next to me. I know... Weird, right? Next time, I'll try some cinnamon swirl pancakes, even though the regular ones were great. The crowd made sense for sure. Tasty food is quite the value. Plus, they run a tight ship.
